Phalloplasty

Definition: Phalloplasty refers to the (re-)construction of a penis or, sometimes, artificial modification of the penis by surgery, often for cosmetic purposes. It is also often used to refer to penis enlargement.

Is it right for me?
The ideal candidate is an individual who does not take anticoagulants ot blood thinners, no serious heart problems, mature enough to weight the benefits and possible risks of the procedure.

Surgery: Various techniques can be used to enlarge the penis.
These include:

Releasing two ligaments that lie at the base of the penis. This causes part of the penis that is normally hidden within the body to become visible.

Removing some of the scrotal skin (scrotalplasty) to make the penis appear longer.

The girth of the penis is normally increased by injections of your own fat, harvesting tissue from your own body and grafting it, or using other fillers, including an "Alloderm" graft (Alloderm is made from human collagen).

Risks: Risks include: the standard risks of a general anaesthetic, infection, erectile dysfunction, loss or reduction in sensation, erections point outwards instead of upwards, poor healing and scarring, Haematoma (pooled blood under the skin) which may require further treatment.Risks of poor healing are higher in smokers.

Side Effects: There is some pain, but this can be well managed with pain relief medication. After the surgery, your penis will be wrapped in dressings that will need to be changed periodically.

Recovery time: You will be swollen for a while, but it should have resolved within 6 months or earlier. You should be able to resume sexual intercourse after one or two months, depending upon how extensive your surgery was. Strenuous exercise and smoking should be avoided for at least three weeks to allow good healing. You may need to do some manual stretching of your penis, or attach weights to consolidate the increased length.
