The Male Pectoral Implant Procedure

Definition: Pectoral implants are really the male equivalent of female breast implants. The intention of the operation is to enhance the appearance of the male chest muscles by placing solid silicone implants on top of the pectoral muscles and beneath the skin. These chest muscles are often referred to as pecs or pec muscles and are the muscles that normally bulk up and increase in mass when a male exercises. The main difference between a pectoral augmentation and a breast augmentation is that muscle is not separated from its attachments to the rib cage or breast bone as they are during a breast implant procedure, so in this regard it is a considerably less surgically invasive operation.

Is it right for me?
Many men strive to develop their pectoral muscles for a look of bulk and projection. Some men work out extensively and are still unable to develop the pectoral muscles that they hope to achieve. Fortunately for them, it is possible to enlarge the appearance of their chest muscles (pectoralis muscles, "pec" muscles, or simply "pecs") by placing solid silicone implants (explained below). Pectoral implants will enhance the bulk and projection of your pectoral muscles, but they will not (here comes the bad news) improve the definition of your muscles.

Surgery: Pectoral implants are placed through an incision under the arm secured between the two chest muscles, the pectoralis major and pectoralis minor muscles. The Pectoral implant surgery is performed under general anesthesia and takes between 1 1/2 to 2 hours. You can expect moderate pain for the first two days and the results are instant. Generally, you can resume all normal activity after 5 weeks. Post surgery recovery products are available and recommended to quicken the healing time.

Risks: Displacement of your chest implant or implants can occur.Risks of infection, hematoma, seroma, numbness of your inner upper arm.

Side Effects: The chest is sore for a number of days. The dressing and sutures are removed after a few days.

Recovery time: You will be allowed to go home the day of surgery. Your dressing and sutures will be removed in a few days. Do not perform any lifting or aerobic exercise for 4 weeks. After a month, the scar usually fades and becomes very difficult to see.
