Benelli Lift, Doughnut Lift, Periareolar or Concentric Mastopexy

Definition: This procedure is designed to lift smaller breasts that possess less than severe ptosis, or sagging, through the removal of a doughnut-shaped piece of tissue around the areola. The Benelli Lift is less invasive than full mastopexy.

Is it right for me?
The Benelli mastopexy is used for women with mild to moderate breast ptosis.

Surgery: About 1 to 3 hours; should not be as lengthy as a full mastopexy. During the Benelli lift, your surgeon will remove excess skin tissue from around the areola in a doughnut shape through a carefully placed incision. He or she may take a crescent-shaped piece of tissue that is taken from the top of the areola for an additional lift, and the remaining skin is sutured with “purse strings” (a continuous circular suture) to the darker area surrounding the nipple. If an implant is not used, your surgery may result in a flatter, rounder breast shape. The fine scar line will be barely visible. Patient Status-outpatient. Anesthesia- local with Sedation, general.

Risks: Possibility of decreased sensation, slow healing, and loss of nipple/areolar tissue.

Side Effects: Temporary bruising, swelling, discomfort, numbness, and discoloration of the breasts.

Recovery time:
Return to normal activities: about 1 week.
Return to work: About 1 week.
Return to strenuous activities: 1 month.

It may take at least a year for the scars to fully mature.

Results are long-lasting; weight fluctuation and aging may affect results.
